A strong community gathers to protect it’s youngest from hatred, to encourage diversity, and to support libraries that are part of the foundations of learning and community. The shields they lift are umbrellas. They sing and cheer to block out the hate screamed from places of deep fear and blasted through bullhorns. This community of protectors is a community that I want to build, and strengthen. I believe it is important.
This design is inspired by the community that is gathering to form protective tunnels of umbrellas so that children and families can attend Drag Queen Story Hour without having to first face a gauntlet of protestors. I am inspired by these individuals. I hold libraries to be sacred spaces of knowledge and learning and equality. And, I am a retired drag queen. So this is personal.
